ALICE Receptionist Directory Install Wizard

This section will walk you through the installation of the ARDClosed The ALICE interface that appears on the ALICE Kiosk in your Lobby, also known as the ALICE Receptionist Directory software.

Install any Microsoft Visual C++ Packages the installation requires by pressing the Install button.

 

Install Wizard Step #1

Click Next to move through the process and follow the on-screen prompts. If applicable, give permission to the computer’s firewall software to allow the installation to continue.

 

Install Wizard Step #2

Choose the web services from the following options, then click Next to continue:

  • Cloud Servers (Default) –Customers using the ALICE Cloud for data storage will select this option.

  • Local (Lync, Active Directory) –Customers who have installed the ALICE Local Database and ALICE Admin application will select this option.

    • Server – If the ALICE Local Database is on the same PC as the ARD, the default “localhost” entry should be used. If the database is installed on a separate device, enter the name or IP of the server.

      If an IP address is used, it must be reserved or static.

    • Port –Enter the port number for the server on which the ALICE Services are installed. The default port number is 8010.

    • Test Connection – This button will test to verify that the Local settings entered are correct. If you cannot make a connection, check that the local database services for ALICE are running.

 

Install Wizard Step #3

Follow the on-screen recommendations and click Install.

 

Install Wizard Step #4

Click Finish.

Three new icons will appear on the Desktop:

  • ALICE Directory – Directly launches the ARD if the Directory is already configured.

  • ALICE Configuration – Launches the ALICE Configuration tool that is used to customize the application settings of the ARD.

  • ALICE TaskBar – If ALICE is configured to disable the taskbar in Windows, an improper shutdown may cause the taskbar to be unavailable even when ALICE isn't running. The ALICE TaskBar icon will re-enable the Windows taskbar when selected.
